The Brand: Past and Present

The establishment of our company in Starý Plzenec dates back to 1942. Our first-ever product hit the market in 1945 under the name Black Widow. Production of Château Radyně began shortly after. The French wine expert Louis Girardot traveled to Czechoslovakia periodically throughout the late 1940s and early 1950s, imparting his knowledge of champagne production unto his Czech colleagues first-hand. The company began to specialize in the production of sparkling wine in 1953. Production volume climbed steadily up to 1970, a landmark year for the company, when it ambitiously launched its first Bohemia Sekt label onto the sparkling wine market. After its launch, Bohemia Sekt production volume reached its first 1 million liters in just one year. Several technological advancements were introduced in 1978, leading to an increase in production of a half million liters. Further investments into the production of Bohemia Sekt in 1992 resulted in the production of nearly 6 million liters.

January 1, 1991 was an important day in the history of the Bohemia Sekt brand. The state-owned Czech Wine Plant of Prague was deregulated and the legal entity that would become BOHEMIA SEKT a.s. in July 1995 was established. At that time the company began focusing its attention on the expansion of a permanent network of top suppliers of high-quality grapes and wines and specialty wines for the production of fine Southern Moravian bubbly.

Bohemia Sekt is the best choice for modern, independent, demanding, dynamic, orginal and active people. It is a sparkling wine for those of us who know how to craft special occasions out of ordinary days.
